Our team has interviewed many people in our community and one of them was our school counselor.
We asked her: What do you think causes school threats?
She responded. " I would say jokes, or when a situation goes on too long and doesn't get the necessary attention it deserves."
We asked her: Do you believe that school threats can be solved?
She responded, "Yes with enough education around it"
We asked her: Why should the government be involved ?
She responded, "To maintain safety and collect data for the future."
We asked her: "Do you think our public policy will work?"
She responded, " I do believe this would help because having someone on campus to help students with their mental health can help become a pillar to the students."
We asked her: "Do you know any good mental health websites that talk about ways to help teens mentally?'
She responded, "Teen Lifeline is a good website, Bloom360 is a non profit organization that talks about mental health, relationship abuse, etc. "
We asked, "How should kids handle school threats?"
She responded, " We can do a school wide assembly, talking about what to do if school threats occurred to multiple schools. Talking to school personnel could help them feel better too. Students shouldn't not add extra details about the threats online. Educators should also try to do something differently, plus the government always has a response too whenever a school threat occurs. All we can do is our best. Everybody has a fear about school threats, students, teachers, parents, etc. Although, we should try to find a way to handle those fears in an appropriate manner."
We also asked our schools Vice Principal.
We asked her: what do you think causes school threats?
She responded, "Its either they don’t want to go to school, they're having problems with other people and want to assert themselves, or they say it as a joke and don’t mean anything by it, but it still makes a huge impact."
We asked her what do you think causes school threats?
She responded: "I think school threats are a big problem in the U.S, in general."
Analyzing all of the data we've collected from our viewed interviews, we can conclude that school threats are a colossal problem, affecting students, and families worldwide every single day. School threats are no joke, and should be treated as delicately as possible. However, the school also needs to have proper ways to deal with threats accordingly and safely.
