Dress Code Reminders: Please review the district dress code policy. Students who violate the dress code will receive 2 verbal reminders. Continuous violation of the dress code will result in your child being sent to the office to wait for you to bring an outfit change. Only solid-colored sweaters will be allowed in the classroom. Students who bring hats to school must refrain from using them indoors.
GUM IS A CONTINUED PROBLEM with our middle school students. Please remind your child that GUM in NOT ALLOWED on campus.
Students may access Clever here to use the learning programs at home. Once they log in to Clever, they will not need to use any additional passwords. ST Math is a great way to practice mathematical concepts! At-home practice/work may be needed if your child is unable to complete the minimum requirement during the school day.
This week in Sixth Grade:
ELA: Unit 1 Discovering Your Voice
Collaborate and Compare
Students will be reading two stories:
Better Than Words: Say It With a Selfie
OMG, Not Another Selfie!
Both of these stories are found on HMH.
Math: Unit 2 - Ratios
On 9/5 We took our unit test on calculating the area of triangles, polygons, and polyhedra - we will finish that up on Monday and then begin our new unit on Tuesday, starting our discussion on ratios.
Please check the list of math links I've created so you and your child can keep up to date!
If your gator could use more math practice at home, please consider checking out Khan Academy. Students can make an account and have additional practice that follows grade-level standards! The lessons offer step-by-step feedback to support complete understanding!
Science: August 15-22
Students will begin the week (Tuesday) by completing their first quiz covering Energy, Types of Energy, and Energy Transfer to assess understanding of our recent unit. After the quiz, students will start an independent webquest package focused on Energy Resources, where they will research different renewable and nonrenewable resources, their benefits, challenges, and future potential. This webquest will allow students to apply their knowledge of energy concepts while practicing research and note-taking skills.

This week we are:
learning MORE about Habits of Systems Thinkers. Students will be applying those thinking models/strategies throughout the year.
Continuing: Unit 3 - Nature via Nurture: How can we use environmental and genetic factors to explain changes in organisms?
Task 1: We learned about weather and the environmental factors that can affect living organisms and habitats.
Task 2: We created our own experimental procedures and identified independent, dependent, and control variables to test growing conditions for plants and made observations.
Task 3 (finishing): We learned to analyze & interpret data when considering genetic or environmental conditions that can cause changes in organisms and/or habitats.
Task 4 (moving into): We are learning about reproduction and genetics, and environmental factors that can cause adaptations for survival in living things.
