Important Announcements And Reminders
Wednesday, September 24th: Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness - $1.00 Non-Uniform Day for Hunters Army.
Conference sign-ups will be sent out next week. Please keep an eye out for an email from your child's teacher.
Last week, an email about family math packets was sent out to all parents. We highly recommend reviewing this with your student as we progress into more complex story problems.
If there is a day-of change to your child's dismissal plan, please notify the front office by 2:30 so your child can be informed in time to go to the correct location. While we will do our best to accommodate transportation changes, we cannot ensure that last-minute requests can be implemented.
Our classrooms can get chilly, students can bring a solid color, or GSA, sweater to wear in the classroom.
Dress Code Reminder: Please visit the Crane Schools Site to review the district dress code policy. Students who violate the dress code will receice 2 verbal reminders. Continuous violation of the dress code will result in your child being sent to the office to wait for you to bring an outfit change. Only solid-colored sweaters, sweatshirts, or jackets will be allowed in the classroom. Student who bring hats to school will only be allowed to wear outside. Must take off when entering the building.
Please make sure your child brings a water bottle and a healthy snack to school every day.
Please have your child empty out their green folder each night and bring it to school every day.

Specials Schedule
Please have your child wear tennis shoes on PE days and Fridays due to our rotating schedule.

What Are We Learning?
Reading: Students will recognize characteristics of fantasy. Describe the setting of a story. Identify the features of informational text and recognize how an informational text is organized.
Writing: Students will practice correct letter formation. Distinguish features of a sentence with capital letter at the beginning with punctuation at the end. Write simple sentences.
Math: Students will represent and solve Compre, Difference Unknown story problems. Sub-Unit 3 Quiz over Lessons 12-16 on 9/26.
Science: Students will observe and describe the patterns in the life cycle of animals.
Social Studies: Students will identify and explain responsibilities at home, at school, and in the local community.
Spelling: Students will spell words with short vowel /e/ and /u/. The next spelling test will be on Tuesday, September 30th.

Homework
First grade does not assign homework. However, we encourage students to do the following at home:
Practice spelling words.
Practice sight words.
Read or be read to for 15-20 minutes.
Review the family math packet.
Practice tying shoes.
Birthday Celebrations
All 1st-8th grade birthdays are celebrated once a month. Bringing in treats on individual birthdays is not permitted. First grade celebrates on the second Friday of the month unless noted otherwise. Your child's teacher will reach out to you requesting birthday items.
Birthday invitations need to be handed out to all students or if you are only passing out to individual invitations, your child is responsible for delivering them prior to entering the building. (e.g. outside prior to the school day starting, during morning recess). Each first grade class currently has 32 students.
Thank you for your help in following these procedures as it helps us start the day in an efficient manner. Please feel free to reach out if you need further clarification.
