We are committed to creating a classroom environment where your child is valued, trusted and is an integral part of our family of learners.

Important Announcements And Reminders
Classroom Spelling Bee will be on Wednesday, October 22nd. Practice spelling bee words were sent home the week of September 22nd. Another
Our annual Julian Applie Pie fundraiser is in full swing! Orders are due Friday, October 24th, and pie pick up is Wednesday, November 5th.
Our field trip to the pumpkin patch will be on Tuesday, October 28th. Please keep an eye out for an email with the SignUp Genius link to the chaperone lottery. We will be able to take 6 chaperones per class.
If there is a day-of change to your child's dismissal plan, please notify the front office by 2:30 so your child can be informed in time to go to the correct location. While we will do our best to accommodate transportation changes, we cannot ensure that last-minute requests can be implemented.
Dress Code Reminder: Please visit the Crane Schools Site to review the district dress code policy. Students who violate the dress code will receice 2 verbal reminders. Continuous violation of the dress code will result in your child being sent to the office to wait for you to bring an outfit change. Only solid-colored sweaters, sweatshirts, or jackets will be allowed in the classroom. Student who bring hats to school will only be allowed to wear outside. Must take off when entering the building.
Please make sure your child brings a water bottle and a healthy snack to school every day.
Please have your child empty out their green folder each night and bring it to school every day.

Please have your child wear tennis shoes on PE days and Fridays due to our rotating schedule.
Peek into our Week
What Are We Learning?
Reading: Students will recognize characteristics of informational text. Identify and use text features to locate and gain information. Identify features of realistic information. Describe story events in order. Create mental images to deepen understanding of a text.
Writing: Students will continue to practice correct letter formation. Distinguish features of a sentence with capital letter at the beginning with punctuation at the end. Write simple and complete sentences.
Math: Students will develop fluency with addition and subtraction within `10`. Unit 3 Begins! Students will have their Unit 3 Sub-Unit 1 Quiz on Wednesday, October 22. (May be pushed to 10/23 depending on time from Spelling Bee)
You can support your child's math learning at home through accessing the resources on the Amplify Caregiver Hub. link. Resources are available in English and Spanish.
Science: Students will continue to compare animal and plant parents with offspring by looking for similarities and differences. Students will also learn about behavioral and physical adaptations that help an animal survive.
Social Studies: Students will use, explore, and construct maps, graphs, and other geographical representations to support content focus.
Spelling: Students will spell words with the digraph sh. The next spelling test will be on Friday, October 24th.

Homework
First grade does not assign homework. However, we encourage students to do the following at home:
Practice spelling words.
Practice sight words.
Read or be read to for 15-20 minutes a day.
Review the family math packet.
Practice tying shoes.
Additional Resources
Students can use Clever at home for an easy way to log into Lexia and ST Math at home. We want to emphasize the importance of your child working independently on Lexia and ST Math. It is crucial that they complete these activities on their own, without any help or guidance. This ensures they develop the necessary skills and understanding at their own pace.

Birthday Celebrations
All 1st-8th grade birthdays are celebrated once a month. Bringing in treats on individual birthdays is not permitted. First grade celebrates on the second Friday of the month unless noted otherwise. Your child's teacher will reach out to you requesting birthday items.
Birthday invitations need to be handed out to all students or if you are only passing out to individual invitations, your child is responsible for delivering them prior to entering the building. (e.g. outside prior to the school day starting, during morning recess). Each first grade class currently has 32 students.
Thank you for your help in following these procedures as it helps us start the day in an efficient manner. Please feel free to reach out if you need further clarification.
