We are committed to creating a classroom environment where your child is valued, trusted and is an integral part of our family of learners.

Here you will find information, updates, and more for your child's first grade class. Please check this page weekly to be kept up to date with all the great things throughout the school year.

Thank you to everyone who has brought in supplies!
As we count down the final days of First Grade, we have special days planned where students are encouraged to bring in items or dress up. These days will be:
- - - - Wednesday, May 27 - Snow on the Go - $2
        Thursday, May 28 - PJ Day!
Monday, May 25 - Memorial Day - No School
Tuesday, May 26 - Please bring in $2 for Snow-on-the-Go so we can ensure all students are able to enjoy an icy treat! :)
Wednesday, May 27 - Move Up Day 10:00 am - Students will get a chance to visit a 2nd Grade classroom.
5/26 - 5/29 - Free Dress Week - Students can wear non-uniform, but follows the spirit of the dress code, clothing to celebrate the last week of school!
Thursday, May 28 - Please send students with empty backpacks as they will need to bring home all of their materials this day.
Friday, May 29 - Last Day of School - 11:40 am dismissal
Friday, May 29 - Report Cards Sent Home
Lost & Found: Many items have been turned into the Lost & Found. If your child is missing any thing, we encourage you to stop by and check out before the last day of school. Thank You!
If there is a day-of change to your child's dismissal plan, please notify the front office by 2:30 so your child can be informed in time to go to the correct location. While we will do our best to accommodate transportation changes, we cannot ensure that last-minute requests can be implemented.
Please make sure your child brings a water bottle and a healthy snack to school every day.

Please have your child empty out their green folder each night and bring it to school every day. Folders are coming back full of papers.
Dress Code Reminder: Please visit the Crane Schools Site to review the district dress code policy. Students who violate the dress code will receive 2 verbal reminders. Continuous violation of the dress code will result in your child being sent to the office to wait for you to bring an outfit change. Only solid-colored sweaters, sweatshirts, or jackets will be allowed in the classroom.

We are always looking for ways to enrich our first grade activities and would greatly appreciate your support. A tax credit donation can be completed. Thank you for your support your generosity makes a big difference for our students!

Specials Schedule

Please have your child wear tennis shoes on PE days and Fridays due to our rotating schedule.

Peek into our Week

What Are We Learning?

Reading: Students will identify and use text and graphic features to locate and gain information about a topic.

Writing: Students will write a procedural text that clearly explains how to do something. They will include the materials needed, write the steps in the correct order, and use transition words like first, next, then, and last.

Math: Students will identify the four main American coins by name and by their value.

You can continue to support your child's math learning over the summer at home by accessing the resources on the Amplify Caregiver Hub. link. Resources are available in English and Spanish.

Science: Students will explore and learn about the solar system. They will build a hands-on model using edible materials. They will learn the order of the planets and observe how planets orbit around the sun. Connection made to prior observations of the sun, moon, and stars to describe patterns in the sky.

Social Studies: Students will describe roles in a community, including producers, consumers, jobs and how people earn income.

Spelling: Spelling tests are done for the year!

Homework

First grade does not assign homework. However, we encourage students to do the following at home:

Practice spelling words.
Practice sight words.
Read or be read to for 15-20 minutes a day.
Review the family math packet.
Practice tying shoes.

Additional Resources

Students can use Clever at home for an easy way to log into Lexia and ST Math at home. We want to emphasize the importance of your child working independently on Lexia and ST Math. It is crucial that they complete these activities on their own, without any help or guidance. This ensures they develop the necessary skills and understanding at their own pace.

Birthday Celebrations

All 1st-8th grade birthdays are celebrated once a month. Bringing in treats on individual birthdays is not permitted. First grade celebrates on the second Friday of the month unless noted otherwise. Your child's teacher will reach out to you requesting birthday items.

Birthday invitations need to be handed out to all students or if you are only passing out to individual invitations, your child is responsible for delivering them prior to entering the building. (e.g. outside prior to the school day starting, during morning recess). Each first grade class currently has 32 students.

Thank you for your help in following these procedures as it helps us start the day in an efficient manner. Please feel free to reach out if you need further clarification.
