Reading: I can use text features and graphics to better understand a text and explain why the author wrote it.
Writing: I can read a passage and write a clear response that answers questions using evidence from the text.
Math: I can draw and identify points, lines, rays, segments, and parallel and intersecting lines in geometric figures.
Science: I can make a claim about how the availability of water impacts living things and support it with evidence. I can identify problems caused by natural hazards (like a Water Crisis) and design solutions to reduce their impact on people and the environment.
Social Studies: I can explain why freedom of the press is important in a democracy by describing how it helps people learn about their government and make informed decisions.
We’re excited to share that our fourth graders are beginning nature journaling as part of science. This is a practice that helps students slow down, notice the world around them, and think like real scientists.
As we begin our unit on the rock cycle, students will be using science/nature journals to observe, draw, label, and write about what they notice. We plan to send these journals home so students can continue collecting observations connected to our current learning focus. While rocks are our main focus right now, students are welcome to explore and journal about any nature discoveries that spark their curiosity.
These journals are an important part of our classroom learning and are meant to come back to school, as students will be sharing their observations and using them during lessons. We appreciate your help in reminding students to bring their journals back to class so they are prepared to participate.
Our ultimate goal is to help students become more aware, curious, and connected to our planet. This experience is meant to be low-stressed and meaningful. It is not about perfect drawings or polished writing, but about noticing, wondering, and learning together.
It is recommended that all students read 20 minutes a day and are working on their math facts at home. As well as if your child is not at grade level in Lexia or ST Math at-home practice is crucial.
Clever - Students can use clever at home for an easy way to log into all learning programs at home.
Your child's login information for Clever, HMH, Google Classroom, and ST Math is their 111 number and their password is their letter password.
Your child's login information for Lexia is the username and password is their 111 number.
You can support your child's math learning at home through accessing the resources on the Amplify Caregiver Hub. Resources are available in English and Spanish.
If you are struggling with getting into any of these learning programs please don't hesitate to reach out we are glad to help!
