Welcome to our communication page! Here you will find announcements, learning targets for the week, spelling words, ways to support your child at home, and other important information. Please make sure that you are checking our page weekly!
Dress Code Reminders: Please visit the Crane Schools Site to review the district dress code policy. Students who violate the dress code will receive 2 verbal reminders. Continuous violation of the dress code will result in your child being sent to the office to wait for you to bring an outfit change. Only solid-colored sweaters will be allowed in the classroom. Students who bring hats to school must refrain from using them indoors.
Please remind your child to empty out their green folder each night and bring it to school every day.
Please make sure your child is bringing a healthy snack and water bottle to school every day.
Math: I can subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, including decomposing a ten and applying the properties of operations.
Reading: I can understand characters, create mental images as we read, and identify the central idea of a story to help me become a stronger, more thoughtful reader.
Writing: I can write a personal narrative that tells about something I experienced, includes details about what happened, and has a clear beginning, middle, and end.
Spelling: Final blends. Our spelling test will be on Friday, September 19th.
Science: I will investigate and classify materials by observable properties (solids, liquids, and gas).
Social Studies: I can explain why we have laws and how they help keep people safe, fair, and working together.
Spelling tests are given each Friday (or Thursday if there is no school on Friday). We do not offer make-up tests if your child is absent, but this will not affect their grade.
Birthdays will be celebrated on the last Friday of each month. Your child's teacher will reach out a week prior to birthday celebrations with more information. Our first birthday celebration for September birthdays will be Friday, September 26th.
Second grade does not assign homework. However, we encourage students to do the following at home:
Practice spelling words
Read 15-20 minutes each night - summarize reading to an adult or sibling
Practice addition and subtraction math facts, with sums and differences up to 20.
We have block specials. Our specials are every Monday and Thursday.
Please ensure students wear appropriate clothing for PE those days.
