Wear a black shirt, athletic shorts, and tennis shoes
Bring a water bottle
Apply sunscreen before school
We may also have a special visit from a firetruck! Just in case, please pack a towel in your child's backpack.
Thursday, April 16th - Progress reports go home. Please review, sign, and return with your child.
Please remind your child to empty out their green folder each night and bring it to school every day.
Please make sure your child is bringing a healthy snack and water bottle to school every day.
Dress Code Reminders: Please visit the Crane Schools Site to review the district dress code policy. Students who violate the dress code will receive 2 verbal reminders. Continuous violation of the dress code will result in your child being sent to the office to wait for you to bring an outfit change. Only solid-colored sweaters will be allowed in the classroom. Students who bring hats to school must refrain from using them indoors.
Math: I can subtract numbers within 1,000 using strategies based on place value, including problems where decomposing a ten and/or a hundred is necessary. Click Here for Caregiver Support
Reading: I can use text features (like headings, captions, and pictures) to help me better understand what I read. I can make connections between what I read, my own life, and other books. I can explain how a text is organized to help me understand the information. I can also choose and use sources to help me research and learn new information.
Writing: I can write a procedural text that clearly explains how to do something. I can include the materials needed, write the steps in the correct order, and use transition words like first, next, then, and last so my reader can easily follow the directions.
Science: I can explore pumpkins like a scientist, use tools to measure and collect data, and work with my classmates to design and test ideas using pumpkins.
Social Studies: I can use a map to find directions, states, and important places in our country.
Spelling tests are given every Friday (or Thursday if there is no school on Friday). Make-up tests are not offered for absences, but missing a test will not impact your child’s grade.
Birthdays will be celebrated on the last Friday of each month. Your child's teacher will reach out a week prior to birthday celebrations with more information. April birthdays will be celebrated on Thursday, April 23rd.
Second grade does not assign homework. However, we encourage students to do the following at home:
Practice spelling words
Read 15-20 minutes each night - summarize reading to an adult or sibling
Practice addition and subtraction math facts, with sums and differences up to 20.
We have block specials. Our specials are every Monday and Thursday.
Please ensure students wear appropriate clothing for PE those days.
