Darien Wenner, a freshman, is the first girl’s golfer from Cranberry High School to qualify for the PIAA Golf Championship.
“At first I didn’t know they took the top three. I thought they took the top two, but when I found out they took the top three, I was very excited.”
Wenner will compete in the first round of the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference (KSAC) on Monday, October 21st starting at 10:30AM at Penn State University.
Golf is an individual and team sport. The individual with the lowest score is the medalist and the combined score of the lowest three scores on your team is the team winner for the match.
Wenner medaled in all eight of the matches the team competed in.
Wenner said she feels “pretty amazing” about this accomplishment.
Also important to note, “In the eight matches we golfed this year, these ladies won the team event all eight times,” said Brad Earp, Cranberry High School’s Athletic Director and golf coach.
The team consists of seniors Kelsey Hanna, Mallory McMasters; sophomore Abigail McCain; and freshmans Mackenzie Kennedy, Brooke Scrivens, and Darien Wenner.
Those wanting to follow Wenner’s progress in the KSAC championship next week can access information through the PIAA website.
