Enroll in an apprenticeship program (options listed below)
On-the-job training: 8,500 hours of supervised plumbing work under a licensed journeyman or master plumber
Tasks include: installing pipes, fixtures, and water systems, reading blueprints and plans, repairing plumbing systems.
Classroom instruction: 550 hours of state-approved classroom training over 5 years.
Topics include: plumbing codes and regulations, water supply and drainage systems, gas piping systems, plumbing mathematics and safety protocols.
Become OSHA certified through the OSHA 10-hour construction safety certification.
At the end of your apprenticeship, you will submit an application to the Massachusetts Board of Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters.
