Welcome to High School! Freshman year is an exciting fresh start. The habits, grades, and connections you build this year set the stage for the rest of your high school journey and your post-secondary plans.

Here are some helpful resources to stay on track, get involved, and thrive during your 9th-grade year.

Your Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) starts the very first day of 9th grade. College admissions teams, scholarship boards, and apprenticeship programs look at your transcript starting from 9th grade—not just your senior year! Aim for B’s or better in all classes to keep all future doors open. 

A few hiccups early on are okay, but make sure you're asking your teachers, counselor, and family for support. 

High school is about much more than just tests and textbooks! Joining extracurriculars helps you make new friends, discover new passions, and build a strong resume for future opportunities. Students involved in a club at school are more likely to have higher grades and attendance! It's good for you :)

• Senn Clubs & Organizations: Attend the Senn Activity Fair in early fall to explore clubs ranging from Student Council, Debate, and BSU to Cartoon Club or Dungeons & Dragons. 

• Athletics: Try out for fall, winter, or spring sports teams. (Remember: You must have an updated IHSA sports physical on file to play!)

• The 1-Club Goal: We encourage every 9th grader to join at least one club or sport during their first semester!
