Welcome to sophomore year! Now that you know the ropes at Senn, 10th grade is all about expanding your interests, stepping up your academic rigor, and starting to explore post-secondary options.

This is the year to build depth on your resume, explore career pathways, and lay the groundwork for major junior-year college and career programs.

Sophomore year is when you begin planning for advanced coursework. Colleges like to see an upward trend in your academic challenge level over time.

1. Course Planning (Honors, AP & IB)

• You will meet with your counselor in January or February to talk about registering for Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) classes for 11th grade.

• These courses allow you to experience college-level work and earn college credit while still in high school.

2. Standardized Testing (PSAT 10)

• All 10th graders will take the Pre-ACT in the fall.

• It serves as a practice benchmark for the 11th-grade ACT and gives you personalized feedback on areas to strengthen before official college entrance exams.

Take career profile assessments in SchooLinks and start thinking about your strengths and interests

Attend a Workforce Wednesday session to hear from professionals in a field you're interested in (or one you've never heard of!)

Keep an open mind and ask people how they ended up in their current job. 

Find a high impact program to join over the summer. Visit a table at the Opportunity Expo and work on applications in January or February. Ask Ms. Rochelle or your counselor for help finding a program that meets your interests.
