The ODLSS Travel Training Program is designed to assist students with disabilities in traveling independently through the community. In order to qualify for services, students must be eligible for transportation, have an 80% attendance rate, and show awareness of personal space, their environment, and the ability to recognize danger.
Once a student is referred for Travel Training Services, the process is as follows:
Within 10 days of the receipt of the consent form and parent questionnaire, a Community Integration Specialist (CIS), will contact the referral source to give an anticipated training timeline.
Within 90 school days, an onsite screening and travel readiness assessment is conducted with the student.
If the student presents readiness based on the assessment, Travel Training will begin with the CIS (Up to 10 school days of instruction using Travel Training Task Analysis).
If the student does not demonstrate readiness, the CIS will contact the parent/guardian and will indicate the challenges that need to be addressed by the parent/guardian and the IEP team.
A referral can be re-submitted after 60 school days, if needs have been addressed.
**Student must be receiving CPS transportation services to be eligible. Parent/Guardian consent indicates upon completion of Travel Training, the student will no longer receive school bus services. Student will be provided with Ventra Cards to travel to and from school.**
