Planning for a child's life after high school can be a difficult process for educators to understand, let alone parents/guardians who are not educators themselves. Without appropriate support, parents/guardians may become overwhelmed by the process. As the local education agency (LEA), it is our responsibility to empower parents/guardians with the information needed to ensure a seamless transition into adulthood for their child.
Kohler's Taxonomy for Transition Programming 2.0 identifies Family Engagement as a primary practice category for effective transition programs. Research shows that students who have empowered parents/guardians are far-and-away more successful in meeting their post-secondary outcomes.
Below are CPS, local, and national resources that we encourage you to share with your students and their families.
