The Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) is a federally mandated program provided by the State of Illinois that assists people with disabilities, including students in high school receiving supports and services through an IEP or 504 plan in preparing to obtain, maintain, and advance in competitive employment - a job that pays a living wage!
DRS can help students with one of the following services:
Job Placement: career exploration, resume development, interview preparation, job readiness training, job search assistance, employer connections.
Financial Contribution to College: assistance paying for tuition, books, fees, and/or supplies for community college, 4-year college/university, vocational training, technical programs, or trade school.
Supported Employment: assistance from a job coach designed for students with significant disabilities who need ongoing support to be successful in their job.

This video will provide you with information about Vocational Rehabilitation and the services you can receive. VR services help people who have a disability obtain employment.

For service, check off "I would like help getting or keeping a job" and select the area the student finds the most difficulty with from the drop-down menu
Continue entering all required information including the student's Social Security Number - this is a DRS requirement!
An automatic email will be sent once the referral is submitted to indicate which DRS office their referral was sent to.
The case will be assigned to an adult DRS counselor who will contact you to schedule an initial intake interview over the phone to gather information and discuss eligibility and services.
Please note that a call from the adult DRS counselor may come from a 217 area code, unknown, or from a private number.
As a reminder, adult DRS counselors do not make school visits. The counselor will set up an appointment time with the student, and it is up to the student to attend said meeting.
Recent Graduate Script
Recent CPS graduates can use this script to guide them as they meet with their Adult DRS counselor once their case is transferred to adult services.
