Community Based Instruction 

CBI is an evidence-based practice that is used to teach students functional skills in authentic settings such as businesses, the workplace, or post-secondary educational settings. It provides a platform for educators to deliver systematic instruction in the least restrictive environment to students with a wide range of diverse learning needs thereby increasing the likelihood of generalization of skills to multiple settings. CBI builds the foundation of many post-secondary employment, education, training, and independent living skills that students need for success during life after high school.  

Below you will find the CBI FAQs and the CBI Consent Form, which is required to be signed on file for students to participate in CBI. This consent form should be updated yearly!

Below is the CBI Manual which will assist with step-by-step planning and procedures to assist you in planning high quality experiences, recommendations on where to include these community practices when developing IEPs, sample assessment tools, and more.
