Frequent Testing and CPS Staff Surveillance Testing
Frequent testing is shown to help with a reduction in spread, by early detection and isolation of, a positive case.
CPS will be conducting surveillance testing of randomly selected staff on a weekly basis. Each staff member will be tested once a month. This is a voluntary step by the staff member. CPS will use BinaxNOW rapid tests and any presumptive positive case will need to be confirmed with a PCR test.
Families can help by testing more frequently, especially if they’ve participated in what would be considered more risky behavior such as large gatherings or travel, have COVID like symptoms, or have had known exposure to a case.
It is best to wait at least 4-5 days after the event or exposure to test.
PCR tests are the gold standard, however rapid tests can be a good way to see if a PCR test might be needed (if the rapid test shows a positive result)
COVID Tests are easier to get now. State and City run sites do not require insurance; however insurance will now cover PCR tests and if you do not have insurance, you can receive a free test under the CARES act.
