1.6 - CAD in Industry

A Day at Work

There are many jobs that use CAD and CAM software. It may be that it is just part of a persons job, on in some cases they may be CADing 8 hrs a day at work.  In this activity you will investigate how different professions use CAD and CAM for their design work. Begin by watching the videos below and taking notes on the different professions. After that, you will pic a profession that uses CAD or CAM. Then you will create a 5 min presentation on that profession. Your presentation should include the following:

• Title Slide

• Introduction to the profession

• Common daily tasks and projects that they would work on

• Applications for CAD and CAM software

• Specific CAD applications they might use in the profession (ex. Solidworks for Mechanical Engineering)

• What features or functions of the CAD software they might use

• Education/training for the type of position, average Max and Min Salary and projected job growth

• Reflection Questions

  • What did you learn about this job that surprised you or that you did not know when you picked it?

  • Would you consider pursuing a career like this in the future? Why or why not?

  • Why do you think CAD is important to know if you are going to pursue this career?

  • Submit your presentation deck in Google Classroom.
