The Flip N' Talk is a low tech option for adding organized fringe vocabulary categories to lite or mid tech AAC systems. Features include:
The set comes with a choice of 90 PCS labels for tabs. The team should determine which vocabulary the student will need and assemble the fringe strips accordingly. Each label has a corresponding strip of stickers that is attached to the vinyl strip. Below is an example of an assembled "fruit" category strip
Strips of vocabulary for the student's individualized vocabulary can be created using Boardmaker software. These are then printed and attached to a vinyl strip and labelled. For example, if your student loves specific sensory items but they are not included in the premade visuals, those pictures can be made with Boardmaker for that student's "sensory" category strip.
The Flip N' Talk kit includes a sturdy, vinyl board the spiral-bound fringe book is attached to using velcro. A core vocabulary communication board can then be inserted into the board, such as the CPS boards below. Click each button to be taken to the PDF version of the board for printing.
The Flip N' Talk can be recommended in conjunction with a mid tech communication device to give a student who benefits from voice output, however is not ready for an iPad based system, access to both core and fringe vocabulary. The spiral-bound fringe book is assembled and attached to the mid tech device with velcro, as illustrated below.
