The mission of the Drummond Montessori Library is to cultivate a prepared environment where every child’s natural curiosity guides them on a joyful journey of inquiry, discovery, and a lifelong love for reading.
We are proud to house one of the largest picture book collections in the district. As a result of the intentional collaboration between our students, their families, and the extraordinary staff of Drummond, our circulation statistics continue to climb!
We Believe In...
The Library as a Prepared Environment. We believe the library is an extension of the classroom—a calm, beautiful, and accessible space that respects the child as a capable learner. The environment itself is a teacher, intentionally designed to spark interest, encourage responsibility, and empower independent exploration.
Reading as a Joyful Discovery. We are dedicated to nurturing an intrinsic love for stories and information. Moving beyond prescribed reading levels, we honor individual choice, helping each child find mirrors to see themselves and windows to understand the world within our diverse and inclusive collection.
Following the Child's Curiosity. We empower students to ask big questions and seek their own answers. We serve as guides, providing the tools and skills needed to navigate the world of information ethically and effectively, transforming curiosity into knowledge.
Connecting to the Whole. We curate a dynamic collection of resources that helps students understand the interconnectedness of all things—from science and history to art and culture. Our library directly supports the Montessori “Cosmic Education” by providing materials that illustrate the grand story of our universe.
Learning Through Doing. We provide opportunities for hands-on, multi-sensory engagement with information. Our library is a space not just for consumption but for creation, where students can build, design, collaborate, and express their understanding in multiple forms.
An Inclusive Community Hub. We are committed to building a welcoming heart for our school where every student, family, and educator feels seen, valued, and respected. We ensure equitable access to resources and a collection that reflects the rich diversity of our community and the world.
Our Pledge
The Drummond Library is more than a collection of books; it is a dynamic partner in learning. We pledge to be a vibrant hub of inspiration and collaboration, guiding students as they become confident researchers, compassionate readers, and creative thinkers, fully prepared to engage with their world.
Welcome to the Library! Hello! I am Mr. Dalton (he/they), and I am thrilled to be your School Librarian. For me, the library is not just a room—it is my absolute favorite place in the world. It is a space where curiosity flourishes, and new worlds unfold through reading.
My Approach I am deeply dedicated to the Montessori method of education. In our library, I strive to create a nurturing and stimulating environment that fosters self-directed learning and independence. I believe in empowering students to take ownership of their education, and I design my lessons to be engaging and Montessori-aligned, supporting that growth.
About Me I love learning just as much as I love teaching! My educational background includes a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Arts in Teaching (Early Childhood Education) from National Louis University. I am currently pursuing an Educational Specialist degree from National Louis with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction.
Outside the Library When I am not at school, I have plenty of hobbies to keep me busy. I am a certified Master Beekeeper and enjoy spending time in nature. I also love baking in the kitchen, especially making fresh sourdough bread. At home, I enjoy the company of my partner, cat, and rabbit. And, of course, I'm usually trying to find time to pore over a good book!
