To clarify, a crash resulting in incapacitating injuries, for the purpose of this graph, was classified as a crash resulting in any number of incapacitating injuries, regardless of amount. The line graph to the left compares the change over time of the percentage of all crashes resulting in incapacitating injuries in Ward 2 individually with a line of best fit representing the other 49 wards. As you can see, the city as a whole has experienced an upward trend in the prevalence of crashes involving pedestrians respective to the total amount of crashes that are both occurring and being measured; however, Ward 2 has experienced an extended sharp decline following a fluctuation of prevalence prior to 2021.Â
To clarify, a fatal crash, for the purpose of this graph, was a crash resulting in any number of fatalities, regardless of amount. The line graph to the left compares the change over time of the percentage of all fatal crashes in Ward 2 individually with a line of best fit representing the 49 other wards. As you can see, the city is experiencing a continuous steep upward trend, which is alarming. Ward 2, in recent years, has experienced a similarly sharp upward trend, following a series of fluctuations; this can either be explained by a decline in prevalence of other types of injuries, or a general increase in the severity of crashes, leading to an overall higher percentage of fatal crashes. This must be addressed, both within Ward 2 and citywide.
As can be seen above based on how low the line for ward 2 is compared to the line of best fit for all other wards, the 2nd ward is in the bottom quartile of wards based on percentages of crashes with incapacitating or fatal injuries out of all crashes.
