The 17 bar graphs above show the changes in prevalence over time of different crash types in Ward 2, categorized into 17 different types as enumerated by the City of Chicago open source data: angle, animal, fixed object, head on, other noncollision, other object, overturned, parked motor vehicle, pedalcyclist, pedestrian, rear end, rear to front, rear to side, sideswipe opposite direction, sideswipe same direction, and turning. As can be seen by the height of bars, no crash type has ever exceeded 30 percent of the overall share of crashes (hence the max y-value being 35 percent). Some crash types bear no weight amongst the overall distribution of crash types in Ward 2 over time - others, however, tend to consistently be more common: these types include angle, fixed, object, parked motor vehicle, rear end, sidewsipe opposite direction, and turning. While these crash types do not show a conclusive trend in prevalence over time, they do show a consistent share in the overall distribution of crashes in Ward 2. While decreasing the overall amount of crashes, our overall goal, would likely not change these percentages, we can use this data to address whether or not a crash type is increasing or decreasing in prevalence, a conclusion that can be applied tactically when determining whether or not that crash type commonly results in high levels of human injury or property damage.
