May 4, 2020
Hello 4th Grade Students and Families,
I am excited to announce that Mr. Melia will officially begin his full-time student teaching this quarter in reading, writing, and social studies.
Mr. David Melia started the 2019-2020 school year as an MTSS provider for a second year at AJLA. We were fortunate to have him begin his observation of the 4th-grade curriculum and instruction at the same time. As the year progressed, he slowly took on more responsibility by facilitating small-group instruction and engaging in curriculum collaboration in preparation for student teaching in the Spring. Due to the unexpected absence from the classroom, Mr. Melia has taken the past few weeks to observe the routine and expectations of remote learning as we all adjusted to the learning curve of online teaching and learning.
Mr. Melia has created and prepared a new reading, writing, and social studies unit for the remainder of the 4th quarter. He will incorporate these new units into the website and routines we have already established as a 4th-grade team, as we know how important it is to be as consistent as possible, especially during these trying times.
If you have any questions regarding instruction, homework, or grading for the 4th quarter reading, writing, or social studies units (starting today until the end of the year), I please ask that you address your questions to Mr. Melia, as he will be the one that can provide you with an answer. Although you are addressing your emails to Mr. Melia, I please ask that you CC me and still include me in your email so I can be up to date with any issues that arise and so I can continue to observe and assess Mr. Melia's progress. (Mrs. McManus will still be your contact person for Math, Science, and Cursive/Spelling).
Mr. David Melia can be reached at djmelia1@cps.edu.
I am excited for you all to learn about poetry this quarter and to see what beautiful and unique poems you create from the lessons Mr. Melia has put together!
Thank you,
Ms. Anguiano
Hi Parents and Students,
Welcome Back! Hope everyone had a restful week off. We just wanted to give an update as to how our school week will look. We will continue to post assignments on the 4th Grade Website. Please make sure you are checking the website daily. As you have been informed by AJLA, we will be available every day from 9:00 - 12:00. We want to let you know that our school day will not look any different than it did before spring break. We will continue to be interacting with the children through email and feedback on their various assignments.
We may try later in the week to set up a Google Meets with the children, if not this week then next week. This will be set up by us the teachers only. We will send instructions on how to sign on and an invite with all the specifics.
We feel that the 4th grade has a jump on e-learning since we have worked the last few weeks on setting up our assignments and expectations for 4th grade e-learning. Please if you have any questions or concerns contact us directly and we will try to resolve them.
Remember we have already started our e-learning so we are ahead of everyone else.
Sincerely,
Ms. Anguiano and Mrs. McManus
Hello 4th Grade families,Â
We hope that everyone staying safe and healthy at home! We miss you all very much. We are reaching out to students that have any questions for us or just simply want to catch up and talk.Â
It's great to see the majority of the students active online. It's also great to hear how our kids are enjoying their time at home with their families and how they are keeping on top of their work and are keeping busy at home. We love hearing from you all!
Our goal is to get in contact with 100% of our 4th graders so we can keep in touch, communicate important info, and help maintain all the learning and progress we had made this year. There are a few students and families we have not heard from just yet. If you are having any issues logging on, please send us an email so we can help support your child at home.Â
Just a reminder to all families regarding the daily assignments. Some assignments are to be completed in their notebook and will be collected when we return April 21st. Others are to be submitted online and will be graded next week. Students will receive credit for all completed assignments to help increase their grade. Please check Aspen next week for updated grades.
Since it is the weekend, there will be no posted assignments from us until Monday. Just a reminder that if you are on task, you should be able to finish your textbook project by this weekend, as it was scheduled to be completed today, March 20th. We will be moving forward in Reading and Writing and I will no longer post directions on how to complete it. If you are behind, please go to the website for the rubric and past instructions. Make sure to place your finished textbook in your backpack for safekeeping and so that you can hand it in first thing when we return April 21st! I can't wait to read and display them all in the hallway!
We hope everyone has a wonderful "weekend" at home! As always, if you have any questions, please email us! We're happy to help our families in any way we can!
Ms. Anguiano and Mrs. McManus
Hello 4th Grade Families,
As unfortunate as it is that we can not continue our learning together in the classroom, we are happy to know that our students will be safe at home during this time. To get through these next few weeks together, we ask for your full support at home.
We need your help doing our best to ensure that not all learning is lost while we are out of the classroom. The example we gave to our students: when professional players are off-season, the expectation from their coach is that each player still conditions so their body is in shape and ready when the season begins. We have the same goal for your child and their brain. We plan to give 2-3 hours of work each day to keep their brains sharp and on-track for when we do return to school.
We do understand that every student learns differently and that we can not provide differentiated instruction online as we do in the classroom. If your child shows signs of struggle, we ask that you help encourage and support them to do their best to complete each assignment to the best of their ability.
Students will receive credit for completion of work that is submitted online. If they can not submit online, we will accept paper copies of their work upon return.
Please check this CPS classroom site and Google Classroom for the list of daily assignments. Please use the toolbar in the top-right corner to locate the homework for the current day. We will do our best to make assignments as close to our in-class routine, but also interactive and fun to help our students stay busy and entertained at home.
If you have any questions, you can reach us at mmanguiano@cps.edu and rjmcmanus@cps.edu.
Thank you once again for your extra support at home during this time. We wish everyone a safe and healthy few weeks.
Ms. Anguiano and Mrs. McManus
