Unit 4 Planning Soc.Sci.

Day 1:

Objective: Students will be able to identify and describe different types of Spanish landscapes.

Assessment: Students will create a visual representation of a Spanish landscape and write a short description.

Key Points:

- Introduction to Spanish landscapes

- Discuss and differentiate between various Spanish landscapes (mountains, beaches, forests, etc.)

- Analyze photographs and videos of Spanish landscapes  (students can bring their holidays photos to class)



Day 2:

Objective: Students will be able to locate and label major Spanish landscapes on a map.

Assessment: Students will complete a map activity where they locate and label Spanish landscapes.

Key Points:

- Review different Spanish landscapes from the previous lesson

- Introduce a map of Spain and its regions

- Identify and label major Spanish landscapes on the map  (Video About Protected Landscapes)



Day 3:

Objective: Students will be able to identify the geological features of Spanish landscapes.

Assessment: Students will create a presentation on a specific Spanish landscape and its geological features.

Key Points:

- Introduction to geological features (mountains, rivers, caves, etc.)  (Review what we studied last years)

- Research and explore the geological features of a specific Spanish landscape

- Create a presentation to share findings with the class


Day 4:

Objective: Students will be able to understand the impact of geography on Spanish culture and daily life.

Assessment: Students will write a short paragraph describing how they think the geography of a Spanish landscape influences the activities and lifestyle of its inhabitants.

Key Points:

- Discuss how geography influences culture and daily life. Do you think there are the same traditions in Aragón than in Andalusia ?

- Explore real-life examples of how geography impacts Spanish culture (e.g. fishing villages, agricultural practices, tourism, sky...)

- Reflect on the connection between geography and cultural practices


Day 5:

Objective: Students will be able to compare and contrast Spanish landscapes with their own local landscapes (They can compare beaches / mountains... with his/her own town)

Assessment: Students will create a Venn diagram comparing Spanish landscapes with their local landscapes.

Key Points:

- Discuss the unique characteristics of Spanish landscapes  (they can use photos or other realia)

- Engage in a class discussion comparing and contrasting Spanish landscapes with local landscapes

- Create a Venn diagram to visually represent the similarities and differences


Day 6:

Objective: Students will be able to analyze and interpret Spanish landscape paintings / images.

Assessment: Students will write a short analysis of a Spanish landscape image and finally identify it.

Key Points:

- Introduce famous Spanish landscape paintings and artists  (Joaquim Vayreda, Carlos de Haes, Maria Luisa Perez Herrero)

- Analyze and interpret the elements of a Spanish landscape painting  (The formal elements include shape, line, form, value, colour, texture, geometry and movement. The informal (or subjective) elements refer to emotion, expression, content, creative improvisation and response)

- Discuss the emotions and messages conveyed through the artwork


Day 7:

Objective: Students will be able to create their own Spanish landscape artwork.

Assessment: Students will present their artwork and explain the inspiration behind their creation.

Key Points:

- Review the elements of a Spanish landscape painting

- Provide art materials and guidance for students to create their own Spanish landscape artwork

- Students present their artwork and share the inspiration behind their creation


Day 8:

Objective: Culminating Activity - Students will showcase their learning through a Spanish landscape exhibition.

Assessment: Students' artwork, presentations, and written reflections will be assessed.

Key Points:

- Prepare for a Spanish landscape exhibition in the classroom or school

- Students display their artwork, present their findings, and share their reflections with peers and other classes

- Reflect on the overall learning experience and the connections made between Spanish landscapes and various subjects

Project Activity Suggestions:


1. Virtual Tour: Use online resources or virtual reality technology to take a virtual tour of different Spanish landscapes. Students can explore and interact with the landscapes, enhancing their understanding and engagement.
