Planning Unit 1 Nat.Sci.

Exploring the Musculo-Skeletal System and the Senses

1st Session

Objective: Students will be able to identify the major bones in the human body.

Assessment: Students will create a labeled BASIC diagram of the skeletal system.

Key Points: Introduction to the musculo-skeletal system, understanding the function of bones;

(Like other organs, bones are valuable and have many functions. Besides providing shape to the human body, bones permit... locomotion, motor capability, protect vital organs, facilitate breathing, play a role in homeostasis, and produce a variety of cells in the marrow critical for survival)

2nd Session

Objective: Students will be able to explain the functions of muscles in the body.

Key Points: Understanding the role of muscles in movement and support.

## 3rd Session (ampl.)

Objective: Students will be able to describe the structure and function of joints.

Assessment: Students will create a poster showcasing different types of joints and their functions.

Example of activity

Key Points: Understanding the different types of joints and their range of motion.

(EXTENSION:

Ball-and-socket joints, such as the shoulder and hip joints, allow backward, forward, sideways, and rotating movements. Hinge joints. Hinge joints, such as in the fingers, knees, elbows, and toes, allow only bending and straightening movements. Pivot joints. )

4th Session

Objective: Students will be able to explain how the sense of touch works.

Assessment: Students will conduct a touch sensitivity experiment and record their findings.

Key Points: Understanding the different types of touch receptors and their role in sensation.

5th Session

Objective: Students will be able to describe the sense of taste.

Tongue flavours.-

Assessment: Students will create a taste map of the tongue and identify the taste buds responsible for different flavors.

Key Points: Understanding the taste buds and the role of the tongue in the sense of taste.

6th Session

Objective: Students will be able to explain the sense of smell.

Assessment: Students will conduct a smell identification activity and record their observations.

Key Points: Understanding the olfactory system and its role in detecting odors.

7th Session

Objective: Students will be able to describe the sense of sight .

Assessment: Students will create a model of the eye and label its parts.   image

Key Points: Understanding the structure of the eye and the role of muscles in eye movement.

8th Session

Objective: Students will be able to explain the sense of hearing and its connection to the musculo-skeletal system.

Assessment: Students will create a diagram illustrating the parts of the ear and their functions.  (The three ossicles in the middle ear)

Key Points: Understanding the structure of the ear and the role of bones in hearing.

Projects: Activities Suggestions:

1. Prepare at home  a BASIC musculo-skeletal system representation where you show that you understood what we have worked in class.

Image 1

You can create an skeleton and with ropes represent the muscles which permit movements.

2.- You  will create a model of a muscle using everyday materials.   1. Utube      2.PINTEREST
