General Scheme-of-Work
A common format is to be used at the Nursery, Primary and Secondary levels.
The general Scheme-of-Work is the base/source document which sets out the progress of work for each subject area done by the school. For Nursery schools, this will be a two-year programme; primary schools will have a six-year; and secondary schools will have either a five-year or seven-year programme.
The school administration has the responsibility of ensuring that this record is prepared.
All staff members (administrative and non-administrative) must be involved in the preparation of the General Scheme-of-Work.
The General Scheme-of-Work must reflect coverage of the three learning domain:-cognitive, psychomotor and affective.
Syllabuses, Scope and Sequence Charts, Curriculum Guides, State Papers on Education, and any other relevant/related documents should be used in the preparation of a General Scheme.
A school’s General Scheme-of-Work ought to be approved by its Supervising Officer- the Head of Department of Education or District Education Officer/Supervisor.
The prescribed format must be used in the preparation of a General Scheme.
General Schemes-of-Work should be kept by the school administration, and made available to teachers for the preparation of their Annual Schemes-of-Work.
General Schemes-of-Work are subject to modifications from time to time.
ANNUAL SCHEME-OF-WORK
The Annual Scheme-of-Work is a plan which details work that will be done in an academic year, by subject, and for a particular Year Group or Grade.
The General Scheme-of-Work is the main source document for the preparation of Annual Schemes-of-Work.
The three terms of any Academic Year must be catered for.
It is a plan that must be prepared by each Year Group or Grade teacher and approved by the school administration.
Preparation and approval of Annual Schemes-of-Work must be done prior to the commencement of the school year in which they will be used.
In the case of Secondary Schools, it is the responsibility of the Heads of departments to ensure that Annual Schemes-of-Work are prepared for their particular subject area(s).
TERMLY SCHEME-OF-WORK
This Scheme is prepared by each teacher from material contained in the Annual Scheme-of-Work and any other appropriate documents.
The Termly Scheme-of-Work details work to be done in each week of the term.
Every class must prepare his/her Termly Schemes-of-Work before the beginning of the term in which it will be used; possibly at the end of the preceding term.
Prior to its implementation, the school administration must sign and date the document thereby indicating approval of it for use.
The prescribed format must be used in the preparation of Termly Schemes-of-Work.
