Procedure for Checking and Adjusting Sled Squareness (by William Ng)
When the blade brake is activated (because the saw senses that the blade's ability to store electrical charge (described by the term capacitance) has changed (because, for instance, the blade is in contact with wet wood, metal, or flesh -- anything that can conduct charge), the cartridge releases the blue spring shown and slams the aluminum block into the spinning teeth of the blade, bringing the blade to a stop in a fraction of a second.
Here you can see that the teeth of the saw blade have embedded themselves into the aluminum body of the brake. The brake (and likely the blade) cannot be reused.
3/1/22: SN 07046376 -- one or both of the cabinet door interlock switches have failed (CB105 017, CB105 001). Disassembling them and blowing out the sawdust did not yield any change. New switches ordered on this date and installed soon thereafter.
5/16/23: Both the drive belt and the arbor belt were replaced on all three saws. Sawstop recommends replacement of the belts because overtime the belts loose their antistatic properties which could cause the brakes to trip.
4/17/25: SN 07046372 and 07046376 both received conversions so that they now utilze the newer blue brake cartridges. Both saws have new arbors, and the pulley shafts were replaced as well (per recommendation by Sawstop). Both belts were replaced at this time. Barbo Machinery (Corey) performed the conversions.
