Hole saw arbors (upper picture) are used in the drill presses when hole saws (bottom picture) are used to either cut a round hole within a piece of material or to cut a circular piece of material out of a larger piece of stock. When used, the desired hole saw should be screwed onto the arbor until it stops turning on the threads of the arbor. Next, back the hole saw off by turning it the opposite direction (so that it is loose and spins freely upon the arbor) until the two circular tabs on the arbor can be lined up and then engaged into the two mating holes on the bottom of the hole saw. When secured in this fashion, the hole saw should move back and forth slightly on the arbor. If you don't put the arbor on in this fashion and just thread it onto the arbor until tight, most likely the hole saw will become stuck on the arbor. Removing it from the arbor for the next person will not only be difficult but will like cause damage to the hole saw and/or the arbor itself.
