November 2019: The Format 51 has developed a tendency to shutdown occasionally. To get it restarted, power must be cycled on the unit. The cutting head does brake to a stop and it is believed, at this time, that one of the switches (likely the switch that indicates the dust removal hood is in position for planing operation) gets dirty. There is no great way of cleaning this at the moment, and we suspect that our inadequate vacuum system (which is necked down at the moment and has considerable hose attached to it) does not keep the machine clear of chips sufficiently. When the shop gets reconfigured, we will monitor if the condition is improved.
9/25/21: All 76 cutters were rotated from the 1-2 side to the 2-3 side. These were rotated to try and have a uniform offset with the outfeed cutters (most of the wear was on the near cutters). The drive chain was also greased.
