CORNELL ELECTRIc VEhicles

SHELL ECO-MARATHON TEAM

Cornell Electric Vehicles annually competes in the Shell Eco-Marathon, a competition to build the most energy efficient vehicle. In 2019 we placed 3rd! Our past electric vehicles have had efficiencies upwards of 4700 equivalent MPG - enough to get from Ithaca to Las Vegas and back on the equivalent of a single gallon of gas! We're looking for the next generation of students to help us reach our goal of building the most efficient autonomous electric vehicle in the world.

This semester we are recruiting freshman for all our subteams! All majors are welcome to apply!

SUBTEAMS

The software subteam is responsible for high frequency data collection, storage, and efficiency analysis during competition. The team is also working on object detection, classification, and path planning projects for future autonomous movement of the vehicle.

The electrical subteam is in charge of powering the vehicle, controlling the motor, monitoring safety parameters, and performing real-time data acquisition and visualization to inform vehicle design as well as racing strategy.

The operations subteam manages the website, public relations, sponsorship, social media, and budgeting.

The mechanical subteam develops the vehicle’s chassis, aerodynamic body, and drivetrain. This involves an annual design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing cycle. Recent vehicle designs have been developed using computer simulations, carbon fiber composites, and optimized CNC-machined parts.
