A Bovine kidney has mutiple renal lobes on the outer portion of its anatomy.
This part of the urinary system acts as a transport system for the urine from the ureters into the urinary bladder.
This part of the urinary system brings in urine from the ureters and allows urine to leave through the urethra. That process happens through micturation which results from a reflex contraction of the bladder muscle wall triggered by stretch receptors.
Renal Cortex
This portion of the Kidney contains Renal Corpuscles as well as proximal and distal convoluted tubules. It is located on the inner-proximal portion of the kidney.
Renal Medulla
This portion of the kidney contains collecting tubules and the Loop of Henle. It is located on the inner portion of the kidney and it is proximal to the renal pelvis.
Renal Pyramid
This portion of the kidney contains the medullary portion of each lobe and allows for the Renal Papilla to be directed towards the renal pelvis. It is located on the outerlayer of the renal medulla.
Renal Pelvis
This portion of the kidney contains the wide origin of the ureter and receives urine from the collecting tubules. This portion cannot be seen in the bovine. It is located distal to the renal medulla.
Renal Veins are blood vessels that return blood to the heart from the kidney. Each kidney is drained by its own renal vein.
Renal arteries are large blood vessels that carry blood from your heart to your kidneys.
