The cecum is found between the ileum and the ascending colon, and is known as the "blind sac". The cecum is responsible for absorption of water, electrolytes, and certain vitamins. In addition, the cecum can hold extra water for absorption.
The colon is split into the ascending, the transverse, and the descending colon.
The ascending colon spirals in bovine. There is the proximal loop, the spiral loop, and the distal loop. These loops are connected by mesentery and filled with adipose tissue.
