Kēmu - games are a great way to learn. You will be able to use some of these with your tamariki too to develop knowledge and understanding of vocabulary and to extend into making sentences.
Ngōhe 1:
In your rōpū, look at the images in the picture to the left.
You have THREE minutes to come up with as many words for the images as you can. You may think of more than one word or phrase for each image. Make a list on paper.
Ngōhe 2:
Choose 3 words from the list
Put them into as many sentences as you can. Each word into a different sentence or try to get all the words into nthe same sentence - it's up to you how far you challenge yourself
E rua ngā taumata - three levels
Use the kupu māori in an English sentence
Use the kupu pākēha in a Māori sentence
Use the kupu in a te reo Māori sentence
This is another game you can create for your tamariki. I started with a few words that I wanted you to 'notice' and added them to a grid in all directions. Then I filled in the blank spaces with random letters.
A positive bonus was that when I gave the challenge in a class, people found words that I hadn't intended to be there but which were entirely valid!
