Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo

At the 2018 FNCE in Washington D.C., I gained a greater understanding of a wide variety of topics including the ketogenic diet, diabetes and its relationship with the microbiome, and the nutrition care process for transgender individuals. FNCE solidified my passion for dietetics and widened my eyes to the importance of dietitians in today's world. Additionally, I had the opportunity to attend a private reception with the Academy President, Mary Russell, and other members on the Academy’s Board of Directors, a wonderful networking opportunity.

Nourishing Health Symposium

During the concurrent sessions of the 2019 North Dakota Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics Nourishing Health Symposium, I gained a greater understanding for the nutrition-focussed risk factors associated with cancer development, signs and symptoms of various eating disorders, and emerging technologies for diabetes management. Additionally, at the 2020 Symposium, presented my research about the use of celastrol as a potential weight loss pharmaceutical to local dietitians. During this symposium, I also learned more motivational interviewing techniques and learn about health at every size.

4th Annual Hypertension Summit

In March of 2019, I attended the 4th Annual Hypertension Summit in Fargo, North Dakota. During this conference, I became familiarized with the identification and management of hypertension, lifestyle alterations to lower blood pressure, and education tools for individuals with elevated blood pressure. I left this conference with a greater understanding of a registered dietitian's role in empowering patients to make lifestyle changes to manage their hypertension.
