Leadership and Involvement

Minnesota Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

I joined the Minnesota Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (MAND) board in June of 2021. I serve as the regional representative for the Northeast Minnesota region. As a regional representative, I plan events and educational meetings for MAND members in the Northeastern Minnesota region as well as attend and participate in MAND board meetings. I am very excited for the leadership skills I will gain from this experience as well as the opportunity to meet and network with dietitians in my area.

Student Academy of Nutrtion & Dietetics

I was a member of Concordia's Student Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (SAND) from September of 2017 to May of 2020. During the 2019-2020 school year, I served as the treasurer and secretary for SAND. As the treasurer, I managed the financial account by monitoring withdrawals for supplies and deposits from fundraisers. In the fall of 2019, I assisted in successfully fundraising $300 to be used for supplies, door prizes, and field trips. As the secretary, I took attendance and sent reminder emails to other members about SAND events. As a member of SAND, I attended meetings as an opportunity to interact with Registered Dietitians in the Fargo-Moorhead area. SAND helped me gain a greater understanding of the importance of Nutrition and Dietetics in hospitals, communities, research, farming, and food service.

Emptying plates as a part of the Taste Not Waste food waste research

Taste Not Waste

As a part of the Taste Not Waste awareness campaign, I emptied students' uneaten food onto a scale while educating students on the Taste Not Waste Campaign, explaining that the campaign is not synonymous with the Clean Plate Club—which encourages people to finish their food despite their hunger/fullness cues—but rather a campaign of awareness to portion their food mindfully. Additionally, I volunteered for the study portion of the campaign by separating edible from non-edible plate waste in the College’s dish room.

Essentia Volunteer

As a floor float volunteer, I gained a further understanding of a hospital layout while collecting liter in the waiting rooms of all floors. Additionally, I aided in staff efficiency by stocking nursing’s medical drawers with needed supplies in the MedSurg unit and NICU.

Minnesota Hands and Voices

At the MN Hands and Voices 2019 Family Picnic, I volunteered at the Cape Making and Coloring Station. I assembled the station while considering an efficient layout for numerous children. During the event, I enthusiastically assisted children with their crafts while using American Sign Language.

Cobbertones

I gained confidence in presenting to groups while interacting with nursing home patients and performing acapella pieces with a small vocal group. Through Cobbertones, I became more familiar with the nursing home environment and made connections with patients through conversation.

Biology Office Assistant

As an assistant for the Concordia Biology Secretary, I independently completed assigned tasks such as communicating department events to faculty and the student body, taking office supply inventory, and filing confidential student health profession applications to ensure efficiency for the biology department faculty.

Lutheran Youth Organization

I was involved with the Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO) of the Northeastern Minnesota Synod for three years. Each year, I attended a six-day training camp focused on building and practicing a variety of skills including communication, listening, teaching, presenting, and implementing disciplinary measures. In preparation for the two youth gathering each year, I collaborated with the event managers and other team members while planning different events and activities centered around the predetermined theme of the gathering. I was also involved in implementing these plans as a youth leader for 200-500 middle school and high school youth by leading group games, encouraging purposeful conversation during bible studies, and presenting information and giving direction to large groups.
