Below are several activities that you may consider throughout a 5-day week. Consider exploring the activities represented below.
This week it might be interesting to think about the extremes or opposites that we see in everyday life. For example, some of you may have seen or may even own a very large dog like a Great Dane or a small dog like a Teacup Havanese. Musical instruments are found in extreme sizes also, like the sub contrabass recorder and the garklein mentioned in an earlier lesson. Today we’ll have the opportunity to explore several wind instruments or aerophones shown in the links below.
The Titanic Tuba. Derek Fenstermaker of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra demonstrates the low range of this incredibly large brass instrument. Incidentally, the Titanic tuba does have pistons and valves.
Listen to Ole Edvard Andersen perform Napoli. Piccolo and pocket trumpets are smaller but this recording is outstanding. Enjoy!
