Fuji Marsh in Suruga Province (Suruga Fujinuma)
https://www.hiroshige.org.uk/36_Views_Mount_Fuji/36_Views_Mount_Fuji.htmUtagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) was a Japanese woodblock artist, who created two series of woodblock prints titled, Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji. When an artist creates many works of art based on the same idea or image, it is called a series. Woodblock is a type of print created by cutting into the surface of a piece of wood to make a picture or image, applying ink to the image, and then pressing the inked image onto paper to make a print.
Each of Hiroshige’s prints are a picture of Mount Fuji from a different point of view, which is the view that an artist can see, from where he or she is located at that moment. Look closely at each of these prints and see if you can find Mount Fuji. Sometimes Hiroshige’s point of view was close to the mountain so Mount Fuji appears large in the print. Sometimes Hiroshige was far away from the mountain and was looking at it through a cave, or through a tree, or from under a bridge, or even through a horse pasture. Each time Hiroshige made a sketch for one of his woodblock prints, he made the drawing from a different point of view.

Point of view is the position from which something is observed or viewed. When you move through your house, you are viewing your surroundings from different points of view.
If you lie down on a bed and look at the ceiling, what do you see? Make a drawing of what you see from this point of view.
If you sit in your closet and look out into the bedroom, what do you see? Do you have to peek between hanging clothes to see out of the closet? Draw what you see from this point of view, including clothes that might be hanging right in front of your face and what you can see in the bedroom from between the hanging clothes.
If you are under your bed, looking out into the bedroom, what does the room look like from this point of view? Can you see the bottom of furniture and things on the floor? Draw what you see from this point of view.
Continue to go through the inside and outside of your house looking for interesting points of view and create some drawings of what you see. Here are some ideas, but you can use your own ideas.
View from sitting at the top of a stairway
View from the top of the stairs looking down into the basement
View from sitting at the bottom of the stairs and looking up
View looking down a hallway
View from sitting in a doorway looking into a room
View from sitting at the kitchen table
View from sitting under the kitchen table
View from sitting on a sofa in a family room
View from lying on the floor of the family room
View from looking in the bathroom mirror
View of an object when you are far away from the object. The object will look small and without detail.
View from an outside deck, patio, or backyard
If you get very close to an object, what would you see? Draw something from that point of view.
If you stand and look down at the ground, what would you see? Draw something from that point of view.
If you lie down outside in your yard under a tree, what would you see? What could you draw from that point of view?
Can you imagine what you would see if you were a tiny insect on the ground? Can you create a drawing of that point of view?
Can you imagine what you might see if you were a bird flying high in the sky looking down at everything below?
Can you create a drawing of that point of view?
Can you imagine what you might see if you were looking through a keyhole in a door? Can you create a drawing of that point of view?
Can you imagine what you might see if your point of view was inside a pizza box or lunch box? Can you create a drawing of that point of view?
Can you imagine what you would see if your point of view was from the inside of an aquarium? Can you create a drawing of that point of view?
