Music Activities for 3rd – 6th Grades
Mr. Gartner
The week of 4/14 – 4/17
(Office Hours 9 am to 12 noon daily via Dojo)
Below are several activities that you may consider throughout a 5-day week. I hope that you would explore all the activities represented below, although that will be your choice.
World Music Tapestry – The Third Thread – Barred Percussion Instruments (idiophones).
Percussion - A type of musical instrument where sound is made by striking a tone-producing surface. This week we will focus one part of the percussion family – idiophones – musical instruments that are struck without using membranes or strings (e.g. xylophones, gongs, etc.) Drums and similar instruments made are part of a different world instrument group called membranophones.
Explore percussion instruments (idiophones) in any of the following continents: Africa, Asia, Australia / Oceania, Europe, North and South America. You may include string instruments that you have at home – including folk instruments.
