Below are several activities that you may consider throughout a 5-day week. I hope that you would explore all the activities represented below, although that will be your choice.

World Music Tapestry – The Fourth Thread – Percussion Instruments (membranophones).

Percussion - A musical instrument where sound is made by striking a tone-producing surface. This week we will focus on the second part of the percussion family – membranophones – whose sound is made by striking membranes or strings (e.g. drums). See below.

Explore percussion instruments (membranophones) in any of the following continents: Africa, Asia, Australia / Oceania, Europe, North and South America. You may include instruments that you have at home – including folk instruments.

Mystery Tune – This tune is very rhythmic and contains the ‘syn-co-pa’ pattern at the end.

Are you ready to “Take Five”? All of you performed this steady beat game so well in class! There are two versions. Perform the one you like the most. Think about improvising a steady beat movement as the phrase changes.

on the sunny side of the street

The week’s featured music is a tune called, “The Sunny Side of the Street” from The Great American Songbook, a collection of timeless jazz standards from the early 20^th century. Many of these standards are frequently performed today.
