From the perspective of the Polk County Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program, improving services for youth in Polk County is essential for prevention. Activities, clubs, and events provide youth with opportunities for positive development which is a crucial protective factor against addiction and mental illness. Additionally, a non- parent caring adult can help offset the negative impact of adverse childhood experiences, toxic stress, and trauma. By improving our services and learning from our youth, we know that we are taking steps to create a community that is healthier, safer, and allows for healthy relationships for our young people.
