10/28/2024 SCORE Reports
For students who recently took the PSAT/NMSQT® (10th/11th grade), there is an easy way for you to view your scores, get feedback, and more with the new BigFuture® School mobile app!
Scores will also become available to students on October 24 through your College Board account.
Here’s how it works:
•Students who provided their mobile number during digital exam setup will receive a text message when their scores are available. They’ll need their phone number to securely access the app, but no password is required.
•In addition to their scores, they’ll see a sample list of growing careers in their state that connect to the math, reading, and writing skills they demonstrated on the PSAT/NMSQT or SAT.
•Students can opt in to Connections™ to hear from institutions that may be a good fit.
•Students who can’t or don’t want to use the app can still get their scores
by logging in to their College Board account or a paper report from their school in December.
The PSAT is a practice test to prepare students for the College Board Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). SMHS students take the PSAT for FREE in the fall of their Sophomore and Junior years. Individual score reports will highlight your student's strengths and weaknesses. Juniors may qualify for the National Merit Scholarship program based on their PSAT scores. These funds can be applied to college tuition.
Date - The 2024-2025 PSAT is scheduled for all 10th and11th graders. The test date is October 16th. This is considered a National Test, so school approved accommodations will not be allowed on the PSAT.
Please go to the Accommodations page if your student will need accommodations on the PSAT exams.
Students who are approved for Read Aloud could take two days to complete the PSAT.
Digital PSAT at South Mecklenburg High School
TBD
We will be administering the PSAT to all 10th and 11th graders on TBD. We will only test 10th and 11th grade students based on their grade level credits in PowerSchool. Per CMS, we are NOT authorized to test students in grades 9 or 12. There are some important changes to the PSAT this school year. After reading through the changes outlined below, please contact Elaine Miller, our Testing Coordinator, if you have any question at 980-343-3600 or elaine.miller@cms.k12.nc.us.
Changes to the PSAT in 2023
To access your PSAT exam, you’ll use an app in the Chromebook Kiosk called Bluebook. CMS has uploaded the Bluebook app to your Chromebook. Please do a hard restart of your device to make sure you have the most recent Bluebook software updates. Approximately 2 weeks before the PSAT, we will conduct a Digital Readiness test during Homeroom. Students will get a test ticket and be able to practice using the Bluebook app. Students will also be able to take a practice online PSAT.
On exam day, students will access, complete, and submit the PSAT completely online through the Bluebook app.
Change #3: PSAT Sections Are Now Called Modules - The digital version of the PSAT continues to have four sections, except now they’re called modules.
The Reading and Writing section of the PSAT will include two modules, and the Math section will include two modules. That’s four total modules on the PSAT!
Each module will be timed individually. You’ll be required to complete the first module in each section before you can move on to the next module. The two Reading and Writing modules will last for 32 minutes each, and the two Math modules will last for 35 minutes each.
In general, questions on the digital PSAT will be more direct and focused. This means that the questions you encounter on the exam may be shorter, more concise, and more focused on assessing the core skills you need to succeed in the future!
On the Reading and Writing section of the digital PSAT, students will be given shorter reading passages that are tied to a single question. The paper PSAT gave students longer reading passages and sets of multiple questions to answer for each passage.
On the digital PSAT Math section, word problems will be shorter and more direct as well. You’ll also be able to use a calculator on both sections! This is a change from the paper PSAT, which included a no calculator policy for one of the math sections.
The digital PSAT will also use a new system called adaptive testing to assess students’ skills more efficiently. With adaptive testing, the difficulty level of exam questions changes based on each question that a test taker gets right or wrong.
Here’s how adaptive testing will work on the PSAT. The first module will consist of a variety of easy, medium, and hard questions. The difficulty of the second module will be determined by your performance on the first module. This means that the second module on both sections will be either easier or harder than the first module!
Digital PSAT scores will be calculated based on the difficulty level of questions students are given and the number of questions they get correct.
