Hello thank you for your interest in NWSA!

Please visit our homepage, where you will find the Online Audition Request Form, as well as Audition Requirements.

*New to or returning to CMS?  Enrollment in CMS schools is required to request an audition.  Once you enroll, you can submit the request, and your child should be able to audition in time for the first lottery.

Please feel to reach out if you have any questions!  We would love for child to join this artistic family!

This page is ONLY for families with students who have an audition appointment OR who have already completed auditions. Visit the homepage and submit an audition request form as soon as your child decides to audition. Read your child’s Audition Requirements carefully so they can prepare for their audition/portfolio review. Check audition Dates & Deadlines and your email weekly to schedule the audition.  We will call if we are not able to reach you via email.  Audition requests are scheduled in order received. The CMS lottery is the way most students are admitted to our school after a passed audition.  All students who attend NWSA must first pass an audition.  Please submit an audition request no later than the published audition request deadline.

Hello from NWSA!

IMPORTANT:  We fill our school with students who pass auditions and who enter the lottery.  The last lottery has just run.  Since we do not have lottery results, we are unsure of available space.  We are most likely to have room in grades 6, 9, 11,12 and some in 8th.  Spaces in 7th and 10th will depend on how many students leave the school after the end of the year.

If we have a lottery wait list for a grade/major, your child would be placed at NWSA only after wait-listed students are placed. We will go by date stamp on the audition request to fill spots for students who pass auditions in February.

We cannot guarantee a spot for any student, but we do think it is probably "worth it" for any interested student to audition at this point (February), because we do lose students if they move or change their minds.  We can't guarantee we will have space in your area, but there is a reasonable chance we will, it will just depend on how many students stay here (and how many are allowed to return.)  Please communicate this with your child so they have realistic expectations and understand that a spot at NWSA is not guaranteed, even if they pass their audition.

If you are inquiring about our auditions for the 2022-23 school year, please visit the auditions website nwsaauditions.com as soon as possible, complete the Audition Request Form to schedule the audition, and begin preparing using the audition requirements also found on the auditions website.

We will reach out to you to schedule the audition shortly.

Thank you!

ARTS ALIVE! November 16th at 6:30-8:00pm

Northwest School of the Arts (NWSA) is proud to present Arts Alive!, an open-house recruiting event for prospective families being held on the campus of NWSA at 1415 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC on November 16th at 6:30pm.

Mecklenburg residents interested in learning about CMS’ only secondary visual and performing arts magnet school will have the opportunity to witness all of NWSA’s arts programs in real time during this event as students and staff perform and create from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM in their classrooms. From 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM, prospective families will have the opportunity to ask questions of these students and staff. Highlights during Arts Alive! include NWSA’s award-winning performance of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in the LaBorde Theatre and a full dress rehearsal of the Middle School Musical, Once On This Island, in the Auditorium.

NWSA is a CMS Magnet School that provides specialized arts instruction for students in grades 6-12. Well known for the arts, the school has also become a place of inspiring academic success. NWSA is currently scheduling auditions for the 2022/23 school year. Students must pass an audition in order to participate in the CMS School Options Lottery for a seat at NWSA. For audition information, including requirements and how to request an audition, visit nwsaauditions.com.

CMS offers choices! In addition to the guaranteed seat at your neighborhood school, CMS School Choice offers magnet, theme-based learning experiences. To apply for a seat at one of CMS’ magnet schools for the 2022-23 school year, families must participate in the upcoming School Choice lottery. Thank you for your interest in NWSA!

FYI,

ALSO,

If your child passes their audition you will be notified when/if we have room for them.

Please do not enter a transfer request with CMS unless we instruct you to do so. If you enter and we don't have room, we have to deny your request, and it complicates the process if we have room shortly after.

Thank you for your interest in NWSA!

IMPORTANT:  We fill our school with students who pass auditions and who enter one of two lotteries. The last lottery for 21-22 school year has just run and we have received out lottery numbers. We are going full forward with auditions for all grades with emphasis on 6th, 7th, 9th, 11th & 12th. Spaces in 8th and 10th will depend on how many students leave the school after the end of the year.

If we have a lottery wait list for a grade/major, your child would be placed at NWSA only after wait-listed students are placed. We will go by date stamp on the audition request to fill spots for students who pass auditions through March.

We cannot guarantee a spot for any student, but we do think it is probably "worth it" for any interested student to audition at this point (March), because we do lose students if they move or change their minds.

The auditions website is now LIVE and we are now accepting audition requests for the 2021-2022 school year! Next Wednesday, September 16th we will meet with 8th grade students during SEL block to discuss auditions. We will have information for auditions for the 8th grade for our upcoming Curriculum Night Tuesday, September 22nd. The "take away" message for 8th grade families is that all students must audition during the first lottery period in order to stay at NWSA for 9th grade. Designated 8th grade dates and deadlines can be found on the website under “dates and deadline.” 8th graders new to NWSA this year still must audition, but we will ask that they audition later December in order to have a little more experience at the school. More information will be sent home this week with students. Please visit nwsaauditions.com for more information!

We are VERY low in enrollment in our 6th, 11th & 12th grades. We are opening-up the audition process and will conduct auditions virtually. Visit the homepage for more information on how to request an audition today!
