The Academy of Teaching and Learning at West Creek High School is for students who enjoy working with others and want to make a difference through education. Academy students will explore how children learn, effective teaching strategies, classroom management, educational technology, professionalism, and the ethics of the education field. The Academy prepares students for a wide range of careers including elementary, middle, high school, and special education teaching, as well as counseling, educational support roles, and school leadership.
Students learn through hands-on, real-world experiences that go far beyond traditional classwork. Opportunities may include working with students in district elementary schools, observing teachers at local middle and high schools, creating lesson plans, teaching model lessons, and shadowing school professionals across the district. Students may also earn dual enrollment credit through Nashville State Community College, giving them a head start on a college degree in education while gaining valuable experience that prepares them for future success in the classroom and beyond.
