Welcome to EAL
English as an Additional Language
English as an Additional Language
*Do not be afraid to read and speak your first language with your child. This will help them deepen their understanding of how language works.
Students go with the EAL teacher in small groups.
There will be students from many different countries together.
We practice all areas of the English language: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Students practice through games, skits, and talking as well as paper and pencil tasks.
It is important for children to develop a "growth mindset." The goal is to improve, not to be perfect.
Listen to the teacher.
Work hard.
Be kind.
Ask questions.
Make mistakes!
Read every day.
Review new words.
Ms Jennifer Newbold
I love being a teacher. I was born in Kelowna, BC. I taught EAL in Tokyo, Japan for 10 years. I was a classroom teacher in Ontario for a few years before I moved to PEI at the end of 2017 .
I enjoy swimming, walking in the woods, water colour painting, and reading. I love many different kinds of tea. I live in Charlottetown with my husband.
