The first step to writing is to talk about what you want to say. This can be done in any language. Students can practice by telling the stories of what is happening in picture books or they can retell stories from their day. Encourage your child to give details, for example how things look or how people feel. Students often like to only talk about the exciting part of the story, but that doesn't give us all the information we need to understand.
We will practice in class by looking at 4-part picture stories. Then I will ask them to draw their own stories in 4 parts (like a comic book) and to tell me about them. Then we can try writing our story in simple sentences.
