Week of September 14-18th
Hello families,
We had a wonderful first full week of school. I think we are going to have a wonderful year. The students are settling in very well with the rules and routines of the classroom.
Literacy- This week we will introduce our phonics program FunDations. I will be sending home an overview of the program tomorrow in our Orientation week. A parent note is sent home at the beginning of each week. This will explain what we are working on in class and some ideas for you to work on at home to support the program. I will also be sending home a laminated copy of the writing grid. You will need a white board marker so they can practice at home. Students can keep this laminated sheet at home to practice writing the letters following the verbal prompts or you can leave it in the pocket of the homework folder. Each week I will send a colouring sheet for each letter. Please keep these in a safe place. They will be used again in Unit 2.
In writing, we are using a book called Scribble Scrabble to help us come up with ideas to draw about. Throughout this short unit will be focusing on learning about colours, different kinds of lines and making sure that our pictures make sense. We will read poems and sing songs to go with each colour. We will continue to work on recognizing our friends names through songs, games and station work.
Math- In math, we will be working on learning about the number 1 along with exploring the concepts of more and fewer.
Reminders:
Utensils are not provided with the lunch orders. Please make sure to pack appropriate utensils for the meals ordered.
No Microwave
I have been trying to monitor lunches and suggest what should be snack vs. lunch. If you could let your child know what is for lunch/snack that would be helpful. Some have been eating most at snack time and not having much left for lunch.
Dates to Remember:
September 16 Meet the Teacher 6pm
September 25 Terry Fox Run (During class time)
Sept 30 National day for Truth and Reconciliation (No School)
Have a great week!
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Meet the Teacher Night
