Hello Everyone!
I hope everyone had a good weekend. This week we will be welcoming Ms. DaSilva a pre-service teacher from UPEI to our classroom. She will be with us until December. This is her first practicum so she will be observing for the first week then slowly with my guidance beginning to teach some of the lessons.
Literacy- In fundations, we will be focusing on letters a and g. We will also continue to talk about rhyming, syllables and how many words in a spoken sentence. The students have started an illustration unit in writing. They are doing a wonderful job using shapes to draw a variety of objects. This week we will continue to talk about adding a character and building a setting to help tell their stories. They are enjoying sharing their drawing with their classmates. The new word for the week is the.
Numeracy- We will continue to count to make groups up to 5. We will talk about all the combinations to to make 5. Here are a few suggestions to work on numeracy at home.
Numbers in the store- have your child look for numerals 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in the store (aisle numbers, price numbers, numbers on the cash registers.
Count the objects- Ask your child to show you a set of objects that make number 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. How can you show me 5? Have a variety of small objects like buttons, paper clips or coins that your child can use.
Count in the Kitchen- Count the number of dishes and other things you place on the table. How many glasses do you need? How many forks?
As we have now gone through a full cycle of the provincial lunches check in with your children on what they like and don't like. There has been alot of food waste lately and then some students are telling me they don't like it. I usually make sure they take it home so you can see how much they are eating. Also please remember to send in utensils as they are not provided with the program.
Halloween- Students are welcome to dress up on the 30th. Please keep masks and pretend weapons at home.
