Language Arts: We are starting our Crimes and Mysteries book club in English this week. I will be reading Holes outloud and introducing reading strategies to the students. Groups will then meet to practice the daily strategy using their group book. In French, I will be reading La nouvelle maîtresse and introducing other reading strategies to students, as well as working on vocabulary. The reading strategies taught will be reinforced in both languages.
Math: We have moved on to represent decimal numbers to the thousands. We will work on ordering and comparing numbers, writing the numbers in letters, and using decimals to relate to measurement.
Integrated Curriculum: We will finish learning about the human body systems this week; the muscular system, the skeletal system, and the reproductive system. Next week, students will begin a Project Based Learning activity where they will choose a virus, disease, or condition and present to the class what they chose and which systems and organs are affected by the virus/disease, or condition. For example, students could choose COVID 19 or bone cancer, glaucoma or lupus.

Language Arts: We have finished reading Anne of Green Gables. Students will be visiting the Green Gables Heritage Place to learn more about Lucy Maud Montgomery and make connections between the book and the site. We will beginning our vocabulary lists this week. In French, students will be learning when to use the spelling of the sound "0" (o,au,eau). In English, students have been grouped together to further their understanding of the English spelling rules.
Math: We are continuing to represent numbers to 1 000 000. There will be a test on Friday, September 27th on representing numbers symbolically (2 345), expanded form (2 000 + 300 + 40 + 5), and written form ( deux-mille-trois-cent-quarante-cinq). The following week, we will be representing numbers down to the thousandths.
Integrated Curriculum: Human Body Systems - This week, students will continue to work in groups to learn about one of the systems in the human body. They will become experts in their system, by following prompts, and will present/teach the class about the main organs of their system and the function of their system.

Language Arts:
We are continuing to read aloud Anne of Green Gables in both languages in preparation for our field trip to Green Gables on Thursday, Sept 26th. We will be identifying places and things that are described in the book. As well, we will be learning more about Lucy Maud Montgomery.
In French grammar, we will be reviewing the au/o/eau sound in French words this week. Focus will be on learning the rule of where to put each of the spellings. In most cases; au is at the beginning of a word, 0 is in the middle, and eau is at the end. Of course there are always exceptions.
In English grammar, we will begin our Mentor sentences and will start to identify parts of a sentence (noun, verb, adverb, or adjective) and types of sentences (simple, compoud, or complex).
Math: We are continuing to represent numbers up to 1 000 000. This includes learning place value, understanding equivalent numbers (ie, there are 1 000 thousands in 1 000 000), and being able to represent numbers in symble form, expanded form, and in written form.

They will become experts in their system, by following prompts, and will present/teach the class about the main organs of their system and the function of their system.
September 9th-13th,
Our first week of school has ended. Students completed some ice breakers as they eased back into routine and speaking French with their friends.
We went over routines and have implemented a reward system for speaking in French with our peers in the classroom and hallways.
Language Arts: I am reading aloud Anne of Green Gables in both languages to the students. The text will be used a mentor text for multiple reading and writing strategies (in both languages); including creating a character and zooming in on small moments, and how to use diaglogue properly.
Math: We have started learning place value up to 1 000 000. Students are reviewing their knowledge from grade four and moving forward. We have also prepared our math facts bag for daily multiplication practice up to 9X9. Students can continue to learn up to 12X12 as well if they choose.
Integrated Units: Integrated Units combines learning outcomes from Science, Social Studies, Health, Art, and Technology. We have started our first unit which is learning the systems in the human body and how our choices of food and activity affect these systems, both positively and negatively. We will be learning about seven systems (circulatory, respiratory, nervous, muscular, skeleton, digestive, and reproductive system) by learning how they function and what organs belong to each system.
