Happy New Year families of 5A.

Important Dates:

What we are learning:

French :  We are beginning our non-fiction reading and writing unit.  We are slowly learning how to search for information on the internet. This week we are researching about our favourite hobby, using Gandeep Pandher as an example of how to build joy into our every day lives.

English : Students started a historical fiction book club reading various I survived ... novels.  We will work on character and plot development as well as look at the historical facts that are included in the books.

Math : I am reviewing fractions; ordering and comparing fractions with the same numerator or denominator.  I have increased our time to practice multiplication facts in the classroom.  Students will be having a five minute multiplication quiz each Tuesday and a five minute division quiz each Thursday.  My only expectation is that they improve each week.  We started today, the quiz is being sent home to be signed.  It is a baseline, together we will see their improvement over the next few months. 

Integrated Curriculum :  We are continuing Unit 2 and are learning about the landscapes of the Atlantic provinces and the relationship First Nations and explorers had with the environment.
