What we are learning:
French: Mme Jamie has taken over our reading lessons. She is going to finish reading La Nouvelle Maitresse with the students. She will be demonstrating reading strategies that they will then practice together in their book clubs.
Math: Students are moving on to number patterns which will lead us into learning how to solve single variable equations by the end of the week (6 + a = 13, 28 = 4a ). We have also received our multiplication flash cards from the department of education. Students will begin practicing their multiplication facts up to 12X12. Students must have up to 9X9 mastered (memorized) by the end of grade 5, although sooner is better.
Integrated Curriculum: We are learning about diversity and racism this week. Students will then be tasked with developing a Healthy Living Fair to present to younger students, in French immersion, at our school. Students will be able to choose the media of their choice; poster, video, flyer, hands on, etc.
English: We are working on narrative writing in English. Students are learning to plan a story using a plot diagram. After writing a couple of stories, students will choose one story to bring to completion, including revising and editing.

What we are learning :
Math: We are representing decimal numbers down to the thousandths (we will be linking decimal numbers to fractions in December). Students are learning to represent numbers using ten blocks, written form, standard form, and expanded form. Students are learning how to compare decimal numbers (greater than, less than, equal to) and order numbers (greatest to least, or least to greatest). We will have a small quiz on Friday.
English: We had an incredible day at Cavendish Grove and Green Gables yesterday. We have finished reading the book, creating an art piece based on their favourite scene, and wrapping up their readers' response. In writing we are moving into narrative writing.
French: We have begun book clubs. Students are learning reading comprehension strategies which I model by reading La Nouvelle Maitresse. They then put into practice the reading strategies with their proper novel in a group.

What we are learning :
French: Students will be starting book clubs this week. We will be learning reading strategies such as taking notice of information in pictures and drawings, finding cognates (mots amis), and using words they know to help understand words they don't know. In writing, students are beginning to learn to write narrative stories based on real experiences. Students are also learning the verb AVOIR in the present tense. Students will be expected to use the proper verb conjugation in both written and oral communication.
English: We finished writing a six-word memoir, and now students will expand on it. Writing strategies that we will be working on will include using a plot diagram, using sensory details, using dialogue correctly and effectively. Students are beginning to think about their favourite scene of Anne of Green Gables. This week they will write a reader's response, focusing on how their scene ties to the rest of the story, their reaction, and how the characters felt during their chosen scene.
Math: We've moved on the place value of decimal numbers down to the thousandths. We will be getting multiplication flashcards from the Department of Education soon and we will then begin mastering multiplication facts up to 9X9. Students must have their facts memorized by the end of grade 5, if not before.
