If you use Google Chrome on a regular base it will automatically download the updates via the internet. When your download is ready, a message will appear in the top bar (right side next to your extensions / 3 dots in the right hand corner) to update your Google Chrome. If you want to update your browser, you can do that the following way:
Mac users: Close all Chrome windows and tabs on the desktop, then relaunch Chrome to apply the update. (or press command + Q (⌘+Q) on your keyboard in the Chrome Browser - remember your tabs will be closed!)
Windows users: Close all Chrome windows and tabs on the desktop, then relaunch Chrome to apply the update. (or press alt + F4 on your keyboard in the Chrome browser - remember your tabs will be closed!)
You have to keep your Chrome updated because of the different patches that are being applied (learn more about patches here) and bugs (learn more about bugs here) that are being fixed when you install a new version of the browser. It's also possible that new features are being implemented in the browser. There are different colours to indicate when the update was released:
Green: An update was released less than 2 days ago.
Orange: An update was released about 4 days ago.
Red: An update was released at least a week ago.
⚠️ Please update your browser as soon as possible; it's also possible to check if your have the latest update by going to the 3 dots in the top right corner ; go to Help and select About Google Chrome. You can also copy and paste this link in your address bar : chrome://settings/help
📍 Chrome is a application and to keep it responsive and quick, it's advised to close/restart your Chrome Browser (or even shutdown/restarting your computer) every 2-3 days. Because Chrome is a quite heavy application and uses a lot of resources. It can happen (let's call it) that a 1 or 0 is wrong and messed up the internal program, what will cause bad loading websites, issues with videos or sound or other things that can be related to this.
