Hello Parents,
Congratulations to families and students for making it through your first Unit! Your student should be proud of how much they have learned and grown over these past 6 ½ weeks of school!
We ended the unit by celebrating two classes with the “Golden Badger Award” - Mrs. Petty’s class where I was impressed by the 7th graders’ participation and dialogue during literature circles, and Mrs. Entzminger’s 8th grade class - during lab activities, I observed students collaborating with each other, asking questions, and thinking critically. This week I had the pleasure of hosting my first Principal Chat with students! Each unit I invite students to join me during WIN. We chat about life at CAMS, what is going well and where we can improve. I love getting feedback from students! This week we had a special guest during morning announcements. Sergeant Steve told students about Escondido Police Department's Trunk or Treat Event and how students can support the event by donating prepackaged candy.
I look forward to seeing parents and students on campus for conferences and the Scholastic Book Fair! Conferences are one way we partner with parents and help you stay connected with the school. You will have the opportunity to see our campus, speak to the cohort teacher, and meet other families at the Book Fair!Monday, October 9 and Tuesday, October 10 are home days (no office hours, no in person classes due to Conferences). Classes resume on Wednesday, October 11.
As we move into Unit 2, I would like to enlist your support in 3 areas: cell phones, footwear, and morning drop off.
Cell phones - Cell phones must be turned off or on silent and stored in backpacks from arriving at school through dismissal. Beginning in Unit 2, the following consequences will occur if students are seen on their phones: First offense: Student will be asked to relinquish their cell phone and it will be held in the office for the student to pick up at the end of day. We will send an email home. Second offense: Student will be asked to relinquish their cell phone and it will be held in the office for the parent to pick up at the end of day. Third offense: Assistant Principal, Mr. Powell, will contact the family.
Footwear - Crocs, flip flops, and slides have become increasingly popular. While these are allowed at school, they are not safe for active play. Students may not play football, basketball, gaga ball, etc. during school hours if they are wearing Crocs, flip flops, or slides. From the Handbook: Shoes must be worn at all times and should be safe for the school environment. On the playground, shoes must have a back strap and for PE activities, shoes must be closed-toed. The administration at each school reserves the right to determine what constitutes appropriate dress. While the students will argue that Crocs have a back strap, they provide very little support to the foot and ankle, putting students at higher risk for injury.
Drop-off - The school office and gate open at 8:00am. Please do not drop off your student before 8:00am.
Thank you for your support in these matters.
In partnership,
Mrs. Morrow, Principal

From Story to Screen Book Club Project
Update: The campaign just hit the halfway mark, we are $317 away from hitting our goal. With your continued support, the students will receive the materials they need for this awesome project!
This project aims to get kids engaged with stories by asking the question: How is the same story different when it is offered in a different medium? The book club unit is designed to encourage critical thinking and creative exploration. - Ms. Shurance

Weekly Events & School Info
Each week, we are recognizing students who go ABOVE and BEYOND in demonstrating one of the 8 Keys of Excellence. Students who are recognized as going above and beyond get to put a star up on our Above & Beyond wall, and get to be celebrated in front of the whole school during morning announcements. We want to develop a school culture where students are kind, determined, have a growth mindset, have integrity, help others, speak with good purpose, take ownership, make the most of opportunities, etc., so we want to celebrate students when we see them doing those things.

Medication Policy for 2023/2024 school year
(click for more info)
If your student will require medication at school, at any time during the year, please print the required medication form here and turn it into the front office. We are not able to administer any medication (prescription or over-the-counter), without a doctor's signature, and the medication must be in the original container. Additionally, if your student will be carrying medication, you still need to fill out the medication form, have it signed my a doctor, and your student also needs to fill out the self-carry medication form. If your student requires an EPI PEN to be used on campus the following form must be filled out and returned to campus. This will better allow us to assist your student with possible reactions and side effects of your students allergies and gives us an action plan to care for your student properly.
Please note: We cannot accept any medication form for the 2022-2023 school year if it is dated before July 1, 2023. All forms must be signed & dated by your doctor after this date to be active for the school year.

Hello Badger Families and Happy October!
This month is very special for us at CAMS, as we are launching our annual Anti-Bullying Campaign: Unity Week!
As an organization, the Classical Academies partners with PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center to stand together against bullying and to stand for including others on our campus. PACER Center is an organization that supports children, youth and young adults with disabilities by providing support and resources to their families. PACER Center founded PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center in 2006 to support all children by their efforts to bring awareness to and prevent bullying. For more information about PACER, please see their website!
I will be in classrooms with students this month, talking about how to identify and respond to bullying, as well as how to be more inclusive to others in our CAMS community. Additionally, ASB will be launching Unity Week, October 17th-19th. We will have spirit days, lunch games and end the week with our Unity Pep Rally, where we will unite together by wearing orange, the national color for bullying prevention. We are excited to celebrate our common message, that we want to be a community of acceptance, kindness and inclusion.
See the flier for more details about what we have planned during Unity Week!
