Hello Parents,
It was wonderful having families on campus for Badger Breakdown, Summit training, and students on campus for their first days of school. We hope that your child is feeling a little less nervous about middle school and excited for what the year has in store! If you are having trouble with Schoology, Summit, or navigating Monday/Friday work, do not hesitate to contact your cohort teacher, the office, or myself for help. We are here to make sure you and your child are successful!
Mark your calendars for more opportunities to connect with the school coming soon!
My first Coffee Chat will be September 6, 10:30-11:15. At coffee chats, parents are invited to join an informal chat with other parents and administration. Coffee chats will have a short agenda and Q & A time. Coffee Chats are virtual and will be recorded. I like to base my Coffee Chats on parent feedback. Please take a moment to complete a very brief survey (only 2 questions) so I can cater my coffee chats to your needs. Thank you! Coffee Chat Survey
Office hours begin on Monday, September 11, 9:00-10:30. During office hours, students can come to campus and see any of their teachers for support or to have a quiet place to work. Office hours are optional, but highly recommended for students to connect with their teachers and receive additional help.
Back to School Night will be September 14, 5:00-6:30 pm. This is a parent/guardian only event (no students) where you get to walk your child's schedule and get to meet all the teachers. More information is coming soon!
Enjoy some pictures from this week! Thank you for your partnership!

Student Safety Reminders:
Student safety is our #1 priority. With safety in mind, here are a few reminders for keeping kids safe at morning drop off and after school pick up.
School opens at 8:00am. There is no supervision before 8:00. If you arrive early, please wait with your child until you see an employee open the gate.
Drive slowly and cautiously on Woodward. In addition to CAMS, there is the Boys and Girls Club, Classical Academy High School PLC, and a daycare. Drive with extra care when children are present.
No U-turns on Woodward! This is very dangerous and against the law. Please pull into the parking lot and park or in the morning, use our convenient drop off lane in front of the school.
Red curbs mean no stopping or parking. Please be aware of the red curbs bordering the pool and along Woodward. If using our drop off lane in the morning, please pull forward as directed by our team. No drop offs along the red curbs.
Always pull into a parking space when dropping off or picking up your child in the public parking lot.
After school pick up - Parents/guardians must either park and walk over to retrieve your student from the holding area OR park in a spot near the holding area and direct your child to walk to you. If a team member cannot make eye contact with you or your car, we will not allow your child to walk to you. You must complete a Walk Off Campus Permission Slip if your child is walking out of sight of our team. Walk Off Campus permission slips are linked HERE.
Thank you for keeping kids safe!

From Story to Screen Book Club Project
The students at my school are widely diverse and have a variety of interests, learning abilities, and talents. They do share one trait- the need for more high quality, engaging, and current reading material. The 8th graders served at this middle school campus often have limited access to age appropriate and relevant books, so updating our reading curriculum will help spark interest in the subject.
This project aims to get kids engaged with stories by asking the question: How is the same story different when it is offered in a different medium? The book club unit is designed to encourage critical thinking and creative exploration. - Ms. Shurance
If you enter the code LIFTOFF at checkout, Donors Choose will double the gift until Wednesday, August 30th. Any donation is greatly appreciated. Check out our Donors Choose Link for more details!

Medication Policy for 2023/2024 school year
(click for more info)
If your student will require medication at school, at any time during the year, please print the required medication form here and turn it into the front office. We are not able to administer any medication (prescription or over-the-counter), without a doctor's signature, and the medication must be in the original container. Additionally, if your student will be carrying medication, you still need to fill out the medication form, have it signed my a doctor, and your student also needs to fill out the self-carry medication form. If your student requires an EPI PEN to be used on campus the following form must be filled out and returned to campus. This will better allow us to assist your student with possible reactions and side effects of your students allergies and gives us an action plan to care for your student properly.
Please note: We cannot accept any medication form for the 2022-2023 school year if it is dated before July 1, 2023. All forms must be signed & dated by your doctor after this date to be active for the school year.

Please feel free to extend my contact information to anyone who may be asking about a tutor! I would be happy to find out how I can best satisfy the students’ academic needs.
